Methodology
How RevAI works, and where its numbers come from
RevAI applies Revenue's published rules to the answers you give. It is a set of rules and formulas, not a language model generating answers. Every rate, band and credit is held in one place in our code, tagged with its tax year and the official page it comes from.
Tax years
| Year | Status | Used in |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | In force | Tax-saving check |
| 2026 | In force | Tax-saving check |
| 2027 | Budget 2027 — pending Finance Act | Tax-saving check, income tax calculator |
A year is only offered once its figures have been entered. We do not reuse one year's figures for another. The income tax calculator currently covers 2027 only.
How the tax-saving check classifies reliefs
- Potentially applicable
- Your answers meet the main conditions we asked about. Not a confirmed entitlement.
- More information needed
- It could apply, but something decisive is missing or unknown.
- Not applicable
- Your answers rule it out. Different answers could change that.
Estimates and their limits
- An estimate is the most a relief could be worth on your answers. A credit or relief only reduces tax you actually paid.
- Reliefs given at your marginal rate are valued at 20% unless you tell us you pay 40%.
- Each estimate lists its assumptions — for example, a number of home-working days — so you can check them.
- We do not cover foreign income, rental income, capital gains, inheritance, benefit-in-kind or share schemes.
- Company tools are illustrative and do not recommend a salary, dividend or pension strategy.
Verification
Figures marked as Budget figures can change when the Finance Act is passed. Where we have not re-checked a figure against the live Revenue page for this release, we say so next to the result. Flat-rate expense amounts vary by grade — always confirm your category on Revenue's list. Found something wrong? Tell us.

Privacy
The tax-saving check and calculators run in your browser. Your answers are not sent to our servers and are not put in page addresses. We record anonymous usage events (for example, that a check was completed) without amounts or answers. See the privacy notice.
